Checking Your Video Card

Technology is always advancing. We all know this, whether we want to acknowledge it or not. As media (eg. HD videos, alpha videos) increases in resolution, quality, and size, and as EasyWorship continues to update to better accommodate the trending media, there is also a need to keep your computer that runs that media and software up to date.

It is important, if you use an essential software program like EasyWorship and rely on that program week after week, that you make sure your computer has the power to run it properly. Be proactive and check your computer hardware to make sure it meets the recommended requirements of the software you rely on. This check needs to be done at least once a year. If your video card is still sufficient to run your software, you will also need to check the drivers to make sure they are up to date. Most video cards will auto-update, but if not, use this time to download and install the newest drivers from the manufacturer’s website.

How often?

Hardware changes quickly, so even though your video card may have been top of the line just a couple of years ago, it still may be time for an upgrade. Do your own research on video cards and don’t go by what a big box retailer tells you is the best. I’ve seen many people burned for something they thought was the best out there, but found out later it was bottom of the line.

How to check what I have?

If you don’t know what video card you have, you can easily find out by running a DirectX Diagnostic on your computer. In Windows, click on the Windows logo button on the bottom left corner and type in DXDIAG and press Enter. When the DirectX Diagnostics box opens, click on the Display tab and you can see what video card you have. You can also see the driver version and date on the right-hand side.

If you have questions about how your video card compares with other cards, you can go to this page: https://www.videocardbenchmark.net/gpu_list.php

If your video card does not meet the recommended requirements to run EasyWorship and you want to upgrade, you can find them in retail stores and online. Here are a couple of links to find great video cards at good prices. Note: Please make sure the video card you choose will fit in your computer and that your computer has enough power supply to handle it. If you have a laptop computer, you will not be able to upgrade the video card. You may need to purchase a new computer if your laptop is that underpowered.
