How to Bring the Final Frontier to Your Screen

As the manager of an online church media store, I get to enjoy watching all of the incredible media pieces we receive from our producers. One themes that I find most fascinating is “space.” Also known as the final frontier. 😉 Space motions provide some of the most gorgeous backdrops combining the colors and the dimension of space.

Although, the following designs might be more suited for a youth service than an adult service, they an be easily adapted for an adult service. My goal in the design process was to challenge the use of color rather than just using a black-filled text box to frame the text. Some of you might hate these designs and some of you might love them. Either way, I’d love to hear your thoughts! Here we go:

For this example, I’m using the Space Funfetti Motion by Dan Stevers.

This motion is probably the brightest space motion we have in our store. Again, you can easily do a black-filled text box as a frame for the song text, but I wanted to branch out and try something different.

• Create a new Song Theme in EasyWorship.
• Open the Inspector.
• Add the Space Funfetti Motion as a background.
• Resize the text box to fit the text.
• Add another text box by selecting the “Text” button on the top bar.
• Resize the additional text box to fit the dimensions of the dark blue box.
• Open Inspector
• While selecting the additional text box, select “Fill” under Element.
• For Fill Style, select Color Fill. Then for the color that I used, under Color, select “More Colors” and input the following numbers:
  Hue: 160
  Sat: 240
  Lum: 22
  Red: 0
  Green: 0
  Blue 47
  

• Adjust opacity to 86.

• Add another additional text box, by selecting the “Text” button on the top bar.
• Resize it to what the turquoise border is shown like above. This isn’t an exact science; just do what looks good to you.
• Open Inspector.
• While selecting this new text box, select Border under Element.
  For Border Style, select Center.
  For Color, select Aqua (Row 3, Column 5).
  For Join, select Square.
  For Size, adjust to 33.
• For Opacity, adjust to 75.

• For the text, I simply removed the outline and shadow by going to Outline and Shadow in the Inspector and selecting None on both.

That’s it! You’re good to go. Feel free to adjust things like the spacing between the dark blue box and the border or the opacity of the color. Different projectors and their screens can show colors differently as well, so you always want to check your final product on live before going live at service. 🙂 Readability is the key for everything.
