How to Use Bright Colors In Your Song Slides, Pt 1.

Let’s face it, showing bright colors on your screens can be a tough thing to pull off. The main grievance of bright colors is that it can make it too hard for the viewer to read the text. So, when the primary function of your song slides is to make sure people can follow along, why would you use brightly colored motion or still backgrounds?

Well, as someone who LOVES bright colors, I think summer is the perfect time for anyone to try a few brightly colored backgrounds. Over the next few weeks, we will bring you some colorful examples in a new three-part series. But first, just a few basic rules to remember when using brightly colored backgrounds…

• Use a color-filled text box behind your text to help your text stand out.
• When picking a color for your additional text box, use color(s) that are already in the background. This helps your text stand out more than your background.
• Don’t be afraid to play with opacity. I used different levels of opacity in each example.

Ready to get started?

For my first example, I’ll be using a two-toned worship background which I selected from this colorful Shift Worship collection: Vibrant Gradients Collection

I love the retro feel on this collection. It’s clean, bright and easy to work with.

Here are the steps you’ll need to follow to re-create this background:

• Create a new Song Theme in EasyWorship.
• Open the Inspector.
• Add the Vibrant Gradients Tide Still as a background.
• Resize the text box to fit the text.
• Add another text box.
• Resize the additional text box to be larger than the actual text box, but smaller than the background.
• Fill the additional text box with the color blue as seen below and adjust opacity to 54. This gives the blue color the illusion of it being purple.

• Add a white border with square corners to the additional text box. (The outline helps the text stand out against the bright background and the white color keeps it clean looking.)
• In the original text box, remove the outline to the text, but keep the shadow. This is just my personal preference. I like the way it looks without the outline.

• Close the Inspector.
• Name the new theme.
• Hit “Ok.”

And there you have it! A great new song theme for summer that uses beautifully bright colors while keeping the text readable for the viewer.
